Chuck Lee hosted the December meeting and announced that his wife Tammy is now part of the Lee Banjos workforce! We congratulate Tammy on coming over to the dark side of luthierie...and Chuck says there is life after owning a plumbing business......LINT thanks the Lees for their hospitality.

There was a good December turnout (16 members) and a new face, Jim Penson.

BUSINESS: The meeting started with discussion of LINT business items which included the April 16th 2005 Master Class and our guest speaker Richard Brune. This event will be especially informative and memorable. Richard is a member of the Guild of American Luthiers since 1972, a GAL founder, President and Board member. He has been a frequent author and lecturer at past GAL conventions. We will post the details on the home page soon.

We are slowing upgrading the website to allow members to control their own gallery text and pictures. Moses McKnight is also looking into a “web hit counter” for each gallery. He is doing outstanding work for our group......we’ll keep you posted on progress.

Show & Tell

Steve Kinnaird brought a real eye popping new guitar made from flamed bubinga and a bear-claw spruce top....it sounded and played a good as it looks. Check out the very fine figure up close. We haven’t seen Steve for a while and now we know what he’s been up to!
Steve Holstein showed us a unique double neck made from figured walnut and sitka spruce. He was inspired to create this for his own education and amusement. It will soon be shown on his website.
He also brought a nice strat with his first 3 part sunburst and nicely flamed maple neck. You won’t see many original strats that look this good....nice work.
Jim Whelan has gotten back into the swing after a brief hiatus from guitar making. He has almost completed a nice koa steel string as a Christmas gift for a friend’s daughter, Caryn Frettoloso.
The body was already finished but the neck is underway now. Jim had her name inlayed in pearl on the fret board by Moses McKnight.
This young lady will be very surprised to see what’s under the tree this year...thanks Santa.
Andy Avera brought the StewMac rosewood D kit for an update on progress...top, bracing and ribs all glued together. He will be writing up his experience in a future article for all kit beginners. The quality of materials and the instruction are very good Andy told us.
Dan Fobert brought his universal workboard and his new fast acting clamp system. You had to see how fast and easy a guitar top or back could be glued and clamped in place. His demonstration took 20 seconds to secure 25 clamps around a box. Also look at the close up of a single rubber band powered clamp. Dan’s ability to design and make jigs and fixtures was most impressive.
Bo Walker brought a pair of attractive coffee table boxes made from byproducts of the guitar making process. Clean out your scrap bin and you can effectively recycle your hardwood waste....even binding and purfling.

NOTES:

LINT now has established a formal membership renewal month starting in 2005:

Each FEBRUARY is the annual dues month. Please remember to bring dues to the FEBRUARY meeting or mail dues to Gary Graves.

From Bo Walker, President LINT:

Happy Holidays!
The unselfish sharing of ideas and fellowship make LINT a rewarding activity. I want to thank all who wrote articles, hosted a meeting, hosted a speaker, volunteered to take pictures and those who just came to meetings in 2004. You make LINT what it should be.

I feel fortunate to have such a diverse and interesting group of people to associate with.

I have had a lot of fun and learned a lot from each of you. I know that 2005 will be even more enjoyable.

All the best,

Bo
